About Light for Sight

Light for Sight helps individuals with low vision, visual impairments, age-related vision challenges, glare sensitivity, and light sensitivity improve how they function in their everyday environments.

The goal is straightforward: better lighting can support safer movement, easier reading, improved comfort, reduced eye strain, and greater independence at home.

Instead of making recommendations in a clinic, Light for Sight evaluates lighting inside the places where people actually live, move, read, cook, work, and complete daily tasks.

Each assessment is personalized to the individual's vision needs, comfort level, home environment, and daily routines.

How We Can Help

Light for Sight provides practical, personalized lighting support for individuals, families, rehabilitation agencies, and care providers.

In-Home Lighting Assessments

A comprehensive evaluation of your current lighting set up in the areas where you live, work, and perform daily tasks. We identify issues such as glare, shadows, and insufficient lighting, and then will demonstrate a variety of customized lamp options to improve safety and visibility.

Lighting Training and Education

Clients learn how to use lighting more effectively, including lamp positioning, brightness control, light direction, and task-specific setup. Guidance is given in practical, easy-to-follow terms.

Glare Management

For individuals sensitive to light, managing glare is just as important as increasing brightness. Our focus is on incorporating light sources without glare and decreasing glare in a client's environment.

Task-Specific Lighting Solutions

Lighting can be customized for reading, cooking, grooming, medication management, paperwork, hobbies, office tasks, and safe movement through the home.

Why in-home lighting matters

Real life does not happen in a clinic

Most lighting recommendations are made in clinical settings — but that is not where people live. Light for Sight evaluates lighting in the client's actual home, based on their real daily routines and tasks.

There is no one-size-fits-all lighting solution. Every assessment is tailored to the individual and the environment they live in.

  • Daily routines and task goals
  • Specific eye conditions
  • Sensitivity to light and glare
  • Existing home or workplace

Lighting affects independence and safety

For individuals with low vision or light sensitivity, the difference between poor lighting and proper lighting can mean the difference between frustration and confidence in everyday tasks.

Proper lighting supports safer movement, reduces fall risk, eases reading, and improves comfort — all of which contribute directly to independence at home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know to feel confident getting started.

Who is a home lighting assessment for?

A home lighting assessment is ideal for individuals with low vision, light sensitivity, or age-related vision changes. It is also helpful for anyone experiencing difficulty with everyday tasks like reading, cooking, writing, or safely navigating their home or workplace due to poor lighting.

What happens during the assessment?

During the assessment, a trained specialist evaluates your current lighting setup in the areas where you perform daily activities. They will observe how lighting affects your comfort and visibility, identify problem areas such as glare or shadows, and provide specialty demo lamps to try out along with real-time recommendations.

What if I am not working with a rehabilitation agency?

You can contact Light for Sight directly to request an in-home lighting evaluation. You will receive a clear, customized list of options that work best for your needs and budget. Please note that services obtained without a rehabilitation referral are not covered by medical insurance and will require private pay.

Do you work with rehabilitation services or provide documentation?

Yes. After the assessment, Light for Sight provides a detailed report outlining findings and recommendations. This report can be submitted to rehabilitation service providers when applicable and can support provision of recommended specialty lamps.
